What we check first

A fireplace wall is different from any other. Here's what we look at before we drill.

  • The wall

Brick and stone need different anchors from drywall. We check what the surround is made of and what's behind it.

  • The height

Above a mantel, a TV usually sits higher than eye level. We measure from where you sit, and a tilting mount angles the screen down toward you.

  • The heat

Your TV's manual says how close it can be to heat. If the wall above the mantel gets hot with the fire on, we'll help you pick another spot.

  • The cables

Above a fireplace, we run them in a cover on the wall, painted surrounds included. We don't run them inside the wall here.

  • The soundbar

Mounted with the TV and lined up below it, if you have one.

  • The mount

Use your own, or we can supply one, tilting if you need it.

Questions

Is it safe to put a TV above a fireplace?

It depends on the fireplace and the TV. Check the TV's manual for how close it can be to heat, and feel the wall above the mantel after the fire has been on for a while. If it's too warm to keep your hand on, pick another wall. We'll help you decide when we quote.

Won't the TV be too high?

Above a mantel it often sits higher than eye level. We set the height from where you sit, and a tilting mount angles the screen down so you're not looking up.

Can you mount on brick or stone?

Yes. We mount on brick and stone surrounds, as well as painted drywall above the mantel.

Can you hide the cables above a fireplace?

We run them in a neat cover on the wall, for $49. We don't run cables inside the wall above a fireplace.

How much does it cost to mount a TV above a fireplace?

From $109: the TV's price by size, plus $10 for the fireplace. A brick, stone or concrete wall adds $49. Your free quote gives the exact total.

Do I need to buy the mount?

No. You can use your own mount, or we can supply one. Tell us which when you ask for a quote.
